Leo H. Pisoni, age 95, of Iron River, MI, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI.

He was born December 18, 1917 in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Candido and Anna (Calliari) Pisoni.  He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1935. He was a U.S Army Veteran, having served in Northern Africa and Europe during World War II.  Beginning in 1949, he was employed by the Village of Mineral Hills as the foreman of their Public Works Department for many years.

Leo married the former Mary Fittante on June 18, 1949 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian and the couple were lifelong residents of the area.  They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2012.

Leo was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and served as choir director for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Ottawa Post # 3134 of Iron River, the Mineral Hills Fire Department from 1952 to 1994, and a founding member of the Iron County Musicians Union. Leo was a lifelong musician and played saxophone and trombone with the Iron County Band, the Swinging Gentlemen, the Caspian German Band, and his own small groups of “big band” musicians who played at many local venues, providing great entertainment for so many to enjoy. He was involved in the community in numerous ways and worked on the consolidation of Mineral Hills and Iron River. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Pisoni, and sister, Edith Hill.

Leo was a loving and devoted father and husband and is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Gary (Dawn) Pisoni of Iron River and Ronald (Linda Phillips) Pisoni of Ypsilanti, MI; five grandchildren, Gina, Joe, Adrienne, Deanna and Vincent; and one great grandchild, Sebastian.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26th from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.  The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in the spring.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Iron County Museum, P.O. Box 272, Caspian, MI 49915, to commemorate musical performances within the county.

My father was Bernard Anderson, and he respected and enjoyed Leo's company as they shared a lifelong love of music; for many years they played in bands together. We're sorry to hear of your loss; however, I imagine Leo and Skip are busy arranging their next musical performance in Heaven!
