Alan C. Sunn

Alan C. Sunn, age 67, of Houghton, MI, passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2023, and is now resting in the arms of his loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Alan was born November 28, 1956, in Iron River, MI to Alice and Arlen Sunn. The family moved to Columbia Heights, MN in 1962, where Alan was a member of the graduating class of 1974 at Columbia Heights Senior High School. He followed his calling to Pastoral Studies and became an ordained Minister. He served as an Associate Pastor in Madison, WI and later as Pastor of a church in Manitowoc, WI. Following his heart’s desire to return to the Upper Peninsula, Alan moved to Houghton, MI and managed the Sherwin Williams store for about 25 years. While living there, he was well loved and respected by many who knew him. Some of many favorite pastimes of his included spending time with his father, Arlen. They took many trips to South Dakota pheasant hunting, as well as fishing and hunting locally. Alan also enjoyed ski trips to Colorado. He is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Sunn; grandparents, Harry and Maybert Sunn and Martin and Julia Borske. He is survived by his father, Arlen (Elaine) Sunn of Iron River, MI; sister, Ann Sunn of Waverly, MN; stepsister, Jennifer Pierce of Iron River, MI; nieces, Alicia (Levi) Engstrom of Waverly, MN and Robin (Zac) Naiman of San Diego, CA; step niece, Olivia Pierce of Green Bay, WI; great nephews, Cullen and Kayson Engstrom and great niece, Hannah Naiman. He is also survived by maternal aunts, Ida (Cliff) Wold of Columbia Heights, MN and Pat (Evert) Borske of Lake City, MI; maternal uncle, Andrew Borske of Decorah, IA; as well as many cousins and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A visitation will be held on January 13, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Iron River. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Bryan Darrell to officiate. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Alvin, WI in the spring.
