Alice M. Eckart

September 16, 1929 — October 3, 2019

Alice M. Eckart, age 90, of Gaastra, MI, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 3, 2019 in LaGrange, IN.  She was born Alice Mary Siem on September 16, 1929 in Elmwood Park, IL, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Mary (Peski) Siem.  She attended the Chicago area schools and graduated.  Alice married Kenneth Eckart in 1947 in Iron River, MI.  After Kenneth’s honorable discharge from WWII, the couple settled in Bates Township and raised their children, Susan and Ronald.  The Eckarts operated the HiWay Café on US 2 for several years and also ran the concession at Bewabic and Pentoga Park for ten years. They wintered and worked in Florida for 24 seasons. They lived on Sunset Lake for several years before moving to Gaastra.  The couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary before Kenneth passed away on March 10, 2014. She attended the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River and was previously a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and Women’s Association in Iron River.  Alice loved to cook and bake, and help at church.  Her husband often said, “I have the best cook in the world!”  She especially loved to spend time with her family. Alice is survived by her daughter, Susan Kirk of LaGrange, IN; son, Ronald of Laurium, MI; two grandchildren, Tobin Kirk of Kalamazoo, MI and Aleycia Fuller of Sturgis, MI; four great grandchildren, Matthew, Katrina, Tanis, and Taran. She was also preceded in death by her infant twin sons and her six brothers and sisters and their spouses. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River and on Monday, October 14, 2019 from 10:00 to 10:45 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dawn Robbins to officiate.  Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
