Alice Paul, age 98, of Escanaba, MI, formerly of Caspian, MI, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born October 9, 1918 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Paulmina (Angeli) Bottea. She attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1936. Alice was a Nurse’s Aide at the Iron River Care Center for 15 years. Alice married Arnold Paul on August 5, 1939 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian and the couple made their home in Caspian. They celebrated their 46th anniversary in 1985. Arnold preceded her in death on December 8th, 1985. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Rite to Life, Paisano Club, Legion of Mary, and was one of the founders of the Suicide Prevention Council for Iron County. She enjoyed writing and loved watching her religious programs, attending Mass and her religious readings, connecting with family in Europe and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Alice’s whole life was dedicated to helping others and her strong faith was a cornerstone in her life. She and Arnold were the proprietors of Paul’s Bottling in Caspian for many years. Alice is survived by her son, Daniel (Joan) Paul of Gladstone, MI; daughter-in-law, Monica Paul of London, KY; grandchildren, Daniel, Michelle, David (Sarah), and “Arnie” Damon Paul, Barbara Strasser, John Jacobson, Tom Clark,Nathan Aultman, James Paul, Michael Paul and Marianne Napier; many great grandchildren, and several great, great grandchildren; nephews, Charles (Peggy) Paul, Robert Paul, James Paul, and Jill Paul, wife of John Paul. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; son, Gary Paul; daughters, Kathleen Paul and Narissa Paul-Clark; brother, Virgil Bottea, and sister, Ernestine Griffe, and nephew, John Paul. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River, MI. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Caspian with Rev. Gregory Veneklase and Rev. Michael Chenier to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
