Allyce M. Westphal, age 80, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in her home surrounded by family. She was born on September 27, 1941, in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Henrietta (Dominici) Ramberg and Maj. Waldemar H. Ohrt (U.S Army retired). Allyce graduated from Iron River High School in 1959. In 1976, she earned an associate degree in journalism from Harper College in Palatine, IL. In 1983, Allyce graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI, earning a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and minors in journalism and broadcasting. Allyce was a journalist for the Iron County Reporter and The Daily News in Iron Mountain, MI. She was named Woman of the Year by Iron Mountain Business and Professional Women’s Club in 1990. She served as editor of the Iron County Reporter from 2007 to 2013. Allyce was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River, St. Agnes Saturday Night Choir, Iron River Country Club, Golf League of Crystal Falls, the Birthday Club, and the secretary of the Italian Ladies Society. She enjoyed golfing, writing, reading, playing cards, and spending time with family. Allyce is survived by her sons, Wayne (Heidi) Westphal, Phil Westphal, and Erik (Danielle) Westphal, all of Iron River, MI; three grandchildren, Cassandra, Lauren, and Cole; one great grandchild, Morgan Mayo; half-brothers, Bill Ohrt, John Ohrt, and Jim Ohrt; extended family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Ed Ramberg; her brother, Anthony Ohrt; and half-sisters, Annabel, Debbie, and Bobbie. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Renee Westphal, Sadie Milbrath, Aspirus Hospital, Dr. Morel and staff, Iron County Cancer Unit, and Dickinson Home Health in this time of need. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Ronald Timock to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Stambaugh Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Timock to officate.
