February 18, 1937 — January 7, 2020

Alvin N. Salo, age 82, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital surrounded by his family.  He was born on February 18, 1937 in Beechwood, MI, the son of the late John “Jack” and Esmeralda “Izzy” (Ask) Salo.  He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.  Alvin married Marie Waligursky on March 28, 1959 in Stambaugh, MI.  The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2019. He was employed as an iron miner for various mines in the Upper Peninsula.  He was a member of AMVETS Post #436.  He loved spending time in the woods and enjoyed cutting firewood and collecting classic cars, especially Model T’s. Alvin is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Ronald (Jeanine) Salo of Mesa, AZ, Lisa (Steve) Lohrey-Moln of Iron River, MI, Randy (Sarah) Salo of Beechwood, MI, and Kim Salo of Appleton, WI; brother, Norman Salo of South Bend, IN; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  His granddaughter Ella named him Grandpa Beechwood.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dean and Dennis Salo, and sister, Arlene Schram.
