Andrea ""Andy"" R. Hereau, age 87, Iron River, MI passed away January 23, 2008 at the Iron County Community Hospital. She was born September 2, 1920 in Stambaugh to Giovanni and Santina (Betti) Cederna. She graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1938. On October 14, 1939 she married Raymond Hereau. They moved to Milwaukee for work until returning to the area in 1943. During her years of raising her family, she worked on the election board in Stambaugh. She returned to work at the Community Action Agency, and was instrumental in the organization of the Christmas Basket and Toy Program and the Community Clothing Center for many years. For several years she attended night classes offered through Northern Michigan University. In 1972 she was hired by the State of Michigan Department of Social Services as an Assistant Payment Worker and retired from that position in 1983. Andrea enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, reading, and dancing with Ray. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan. She was well known for her dancing with Ray, and on many Saturday nights they could be seen on a local dance floor enjoying the music and dancing. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. She is survived by her loving daughters: Judy Hansen (friend Jack Penkivech) of Fenton, Janis (Bill) Book of Marquette, Joanne (George) Schafer of Clio, Jeanne (Jim) Smith of LaCrosse, WI; grandchildren: Sherry (Luke) Korpi, Vicki (Klay) Dillon, Gina (Rick) Hall, Dennis (Christy) Hansen, Tammy Schafer, Braunen Smith, Melissa Schafer; seven great grandchildren; special local nieces, Marion Erickson and Nina Rigodonzo, and nephew Robert Lantz. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 2007; her parents; sisters, Mary Cederna, Santina Gorman, Victoria Asplund, Celia Freghetto, Serena Stefani, Elna Lantz; brothers John and George Cederna. Visitation: Monday, January 28, 2008 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian. Funeral Service: Monday, January 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, with Rev Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial The family suggest memorials to the Iron County Community Hospital Auxiliary or since Andy loved growing flowering plants (cyclamen, azalea, and African violets were her favorites) you may wish to grow and tend a plant in her memory. All the love, kindness and sympathy shown to Andy and her family is precious and will long be remembered. To all of her former care givers, a special thanks for helping her stay in her home as long as she did before entering a nursing home.
