Andrew Leroy McIntosh, age 96, died peacefully at his Florida home on June 23, 2009. ""Mac"" was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin on April 13, 1913 to Andrew and Emma (Waller) McIntosh. He stayed in Milwaukee after high school, graduating from the Wisconsin State Teacher's College in 1937. He came to the area in 1937, first settling in Gibbs City where he taught for two years in the one room school house. He then moved to Iron River where he taught for 35 years; except for two years at the Homer School, he taught at the Iron River High School, where he also coached Cross Country track. Mac was very proud of his military service, serving in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. During WW2, he served in Germany, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg in radio intelligence. After the war, he returned to the states and received his Masters Degree from UW- Madison. When he returned to Iron River, he resumed teaching and gained a Mrs., marrying Mary Jeanne Poirrier on October 2, 1946. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary in 2008. They enjoyed travel and spending their retirement winters on South Padre Island, Texas and more recently Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. Mac served proudly in the Michigan National Guard from 1950 to 1973, retiring as a First Sergeant. He was also very involved in the Michigan Education Association, serving as president of the local chapter, on the MEA board of directors and as a National Education Association regional coordinator. He was also a member of MARSP and the American Legion Post 17. He was a very proud and loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Andrew (Gerry) of California and daughters Jeanne (Larry) Isaacs of Wisconsin and Ann of Florida. His grandchildren are Kris, Alicia, and Nick Isaacs of Wisconsin and Dr. Andrew (Michelle), Erich, and Adam McIntosh of California. He is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emma McIntosh of California, his brother Robert (Joan) McIntosh of Florida, nieces, nephews, his Chilean family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ethel Haase and his Chilean ""son"" Oscar. The family is very grateful to the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, who cared for him in his home in his last days. An open house celebration of his life will be held at his Iron River home on Saturday August 8th from 1-4 pm. Local arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
