Andrew Ray Webber, age 91 of Caspian, MI, died peacefully at his home Sunday October 18, 2009 surrounded by his children. He was born April 3, 1918 in Gaastra, MI. Ray was one of nine children born to the late Andrew and Mary (Marinello) Webber. He moved to Caspian, MI in 1919 and lived there throughout his life. He attended Caspian elementary school and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1936. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during WWII with the 95th Division in Belgium, France and Germany until his honorable discharge in 1945. He married the former Jean Zambon October 15, 1947 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River. The couple made their home in Caspian, celebrating their 57th Wedding Anniversary in 2004. Jean preceded him in death May 2005. Ray was part owner of Caspian Foods and worked as a butcher. He also worked as a butcher in Phelps, WI, Osterby's Super Value, Crystal Falls and Angeli Foods and Deli, Iron River retiring in 1983. He was a member of St.Cecilia Catholic Church, Iron River Elks Lodge #1671 and the Caspian Progressive Men. He enjoyed making sausage in his basement with his friends and family and visiting daily with his buddies at McDonalds in Iron River. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and never missed a game on TV. He also enjoyed the summers spent at his cottage on Chicagoan Lake. Ray was also preceded in death by his grandson Matthew Webber, who died April 2006 as a result of injuries sustained in the Iraq War; brothers Walter, Homer, Robert and Donald; and sisters Verna Daniels and Jean Gallup. He is survived by his sons; Alan (Karen) Webber, Hudsonville, MI Gary Webber, Gilbert AZ Daughter, Mary (Steven) Rogacki, Chelsea, MI Three grandsons; Andrew Webber, Adam Rogacki and Brandin Klein Three great grandsons; Nick, Jack and Casey Klein Two brothers; William Webber, Iron River, MI Kenneth (Deanna) Webber, Riverton, Wyoming Nieces, nephews and extended family Visitation: Thursday October 22, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Friday October 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. West Side Veterans to accord military rites. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
