Ann Johnson, age 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Legacy of the Northwoods in Eagle River, WI. She was born on June 7, 1930, in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late William and Esther (Wickman) Young. Ann attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the class of 1948. She completed her undergraduate work at National College of Education and later earned her master’s degree in education from Northern Michigan University. Ann married Frank C. Johnson on October 2, 1952, in Peoria, IL. The couple made their home in Peoria before returning to the area. They celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary in 1973. Frank preceded her in death on October 17, 1973. She started her teaching career in 1952 in Peoria. After returning to the area, Ann taught Kindergarten at the Caspian School in the morning and at the Gaastra School in the afternoon. In 1961 she moved to the Stambaugh Schools, where she stayed until retiring in 1986 from West Iron County. She was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1986. Ann was a member of First Lutheran Church in Iron River. She loved to read, sing and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Ann is survived by her daughters, Jill (Curt) Poulos of Crystal Falls, MI and Sally (Jim) Sides of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law, Todd (Jessica) Shamion of Crystal Falls, MI; five grandchildren, Jeff (McKenna) and Andrew (Aurora) Poulos, Matthew Sides, Kaitlin (Kurt) Lehmann, and Elizabeth Shamion; seven great grandchildren, Liam, McCoy, Kora, Ayden, Greyson, and Theodore Poulos, and Carysn Lehmann; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kim Shamion; brother, George Young; sister, Sally French; and special friend, Nello Cailotto. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Vicar Lance Crevier to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
