Mrs. Ann R. Lane, age 91, Iron River, MI died Saturday May 3, 2008 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. Born: February 16, 1917 in Carville, New York. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Katherine (Mason) Grabrick. She attended the Ewen, Michigan schools. Ann and her sister Mary were known as the Lakeland Sisters. They began their radio career at WJMS, Ironwood, MI. They then went to Minneapolis, and in 1935 to Detroit. In 1937 after a successful audition, they became full fledged members of the Grand Ole Opry cast and made their first appearance January 9th. The singing ""Cowgirls"" made pleasing appearances on the stage in their vivid cowgirl accourtrements with their Hawaiin and Spanish guitars. On April 17, 1943 Ann earned the Army-Navy Production Award conferred by the Government of the United States for Excellence in War Production. She married Edward Lane February 7, 1944 in Chicago, Il. The couple made their home in Wakefield, MI. He preceded her in death in 1985. In 1987 Ann moved to Iron River to reside close to her children. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and the St. Agnes Altar Society. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed the outdoors. She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters; Donna and Tiffany, step-daughter; Barbara Bale, brothers; John and George and sister Mary. Survived by two sons; Eugene (JoAnn) Lane of White Pine, MI Gary (Mona) Lane of Caspian, MI Stepson, Duane (Grace) Lane of Wakefield, MI Six daughters, Virginia (Chet) Benson of Iron River Sharon White of Gladstone, MI Diane (Jim) Gibula of Iron River Anita (Mike) Brass of Geneva, OH Judy (Allan) Anderson of Ironwood, MI Terry (Bruce) Brzoznowski of Iron River Sister, Katie Kugler, Bruce Crossing, MI Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, extended family and friends Visitation: Monday May 12, 2008 from 2:30 -to 4:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Memorial Service; Monday May 12, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home with the Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church to officiate. The family suggest Memorials to the American Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
