Ann Marie Ghiotto, age 88, of Gaastra, MI, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on July 12, 1929 in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late Walter and Josephine (Turoski) Roe. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. Ann Marie married Bruno Ghiotto on June 16, 1974. The couple celebrated 43 wonderful years together.  Together she and Bruno loved playing cards with family, going on casino trips and traveling in their trailer throughout the States. She was employed as secretary for the West Iron County Schools. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian and very involved with the Church. She served a number of years as the President of the St. Ann’s Society, President of the Rosary Sodality and Honor Guard, member of the Italian Ladies, and was in charge of funeral luncheons for a number of years. Ann Marie was also a member of the American Legion Reino Post #21 Ladies Auxiliary.  Ann Marie was a very social lady who loved playing cards at the Iron River Senior Center and Bingo at the Amasa Senior Center. She was also a true homemaker spending lots of time with her mother in the kitchen, being involved in home extension groups, and sharing their love for their Polish heritage. She loved to bake Italian treats and passed her knowledge onto her granddaughter and great granddaughter. Ann Marie is survived by her husband, Bruno, sons, Michael (Christine) Sloat of Reedsburg, WI and Richard Sloat of Iron River; daughter, Rose Ghiotto of Scraton, PA; daughter-in-law, Mary Ghiotto of Iron River; grandchildren, Terri Lynn (Derek) Lambert, Steven (Lissa) Sloat, Darren (Megan Serbinski) and Jason (Angela) Ghiotto, and Tommy (Lisa) Gendzwill; great grandchildren, Rebecca Strait, Lydia, Landon, Liam, Ashley, Gregory and Madelina Ghiotto, and Noah Gendzwill; brother, Walter “Wally” Roe of Amasa, MI; sister, Mae Roe Sloat of Menasha, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by the father of her sons, Roland Sloat; her son, Mike Ghiotto; brother, Norman Roe; sister-in-law, Rena Yackel. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:30 am at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. The American Legion Reino Post 21 Ladies Auxiliary will form a Poppy Honor Guard at the visitation. Funeral services will follow at 11 am at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The Ladies of the Rosary Sodality, St. Anne’s Society and the Italian Ladies Society will form an Honor Guard during the Mass.
