Anna E. Shoquist

Anna E. (Sister) Beaird Shoquist, age 94, Formerly of Iron River, MI and Tyler, TX passed away Sunday June 12, 2016 at Delnor Glen Assisted Living in St. Charles, Ill. Prior to her death, Anna was comforted by all of her sons and passed away peacefully with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was born April 14, 1922 in Tyler, TX, the daughter of the late Henry “Pete” and Lena Verner Beaird. Anna attended the Tyler Schools, graduating from Tyler High School with the Class of 1940, and received her Associate’s Degree in 1942. She was a bookkeeper for Martin Accounting for 15 years. Anna married Chester Shoquist on October 2, 1943 in Tyler, TX. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in 1995. Chester preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of the Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church of Tyler, TX, Bates Modern Homemakers, Lady Elks, Grace Covenant Women’s Circle, and the Tyler Junior Symphony. Anna attended the Grace Covenant Church of Iron River. She was a strong-willed Texan who enjoyed baking, cooking, card and piano playing, and telling jokes. Anna was an avid supporter of all of her children’s athletics. Anna is survived by her sons, Charles (Nancy) of Ravenna, MI, Ronald (Peggy) of Troy, MI, and Steven (Ruth) of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Carrie (Steven) Scalcucci of Batavia, IL; sister-in-law, Maxine (Bud) Hamacher, seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry (Gladys) and Richard (Dorothy) Beaird of Tyler TX. Visitation will be held Saturday June 18, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Grace Covenant Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Bill Fish to officiate.
