Anthony D. Ohrt, 78, of Iron River died Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital following a long illness complicated by the COVID virus. He was born Sept. 20, 1942, in downstate Pontiac. He attended the Iron River schools, later earning his GED. He was an avid Detroit Lions fan, win or lose; and enjoyed his days as a pilot flying his single-engine airplane to visit family and friends. To everyone he met, whether family, friends or new acquaintances, he was always “Uncle Tony.” He was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta (Dominici) Ramberg of Iron River in 2010; his father, Maj. Waldemar H. Ohrt (U.S Army retired) of downstate Howell in 1966; his stepfather, Ed Ramberg of Iron River in 2003; his grandparents, Secundo and Ida Dominici of Iron River; aunts Anne Windsor, Evelyn Vantaggi and Eva Rizzardi, all of Iron River; and uncle, Alvin Dominici of Iron River. He is survived by his sons Larry Ohrt and Markus (Andrea) Ohrt, both of Germany; grandchildren, Luisa, Teresa, Alisa, twins Lewis and Steven, all of Germany; sister, Allyce Westphal of Iron River; nephews, Wayne (Heidi), Phil and Erik Westphal, all of Iron River; many cousins, nieces and nephews; special lifelong friends and family, Terry and Rosemary Tarsi and their family of Iron River; special brothers and compatriots of his downstate motorcycle club where he served as president for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a member of several veterans’ organizations including the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family extends its gratitude and appreciation to his doctor, Michael Yard; his hospital and home healthcare staff at Aspirus; staff members at the Iron River Care Center and others who gave their time and energy caring for him during his last days. Private services will be held at a later date.
