Anthony Patrick Penkivech, age 78, passed away at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans CLC Hospice in Iron Mountain, Michigan on September 8, 2018. Anthony “Tony” was born on Nov. 7, 1939 in Stambaugh, Michigan to the late Frank and Anna (Rusinek) Penkivech. He was the 5th oldest of 6 brothers. Tony attended Stambaugh School and graduating with the Class of 1957. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1958 and was stationed on the Destroyer Escort USS Hammerberg DE 1015.  Following his Honorable discharge, he ultimately moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota area where he worked for EM Corp. (Electric Machinery) He worked as a Field Engineer and assembler on Large Power Generators and Rotating Excitation Systems for EM for 33 years. He was well respected in his field of work by customers throughout the world. He retired back to the area where he and his brothers grew up. Tony was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved being at the Hunting Camp with his brothers and their family. His yearly migration to the hunting camp spanned several decades. Tony’s laughter was infectious. His great size was intimidating to most people at first, but in time one realized his gentle-giant nature. He was lots of fun to be around and he will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Tony never married the love of his life as she died tragically before that could take place. He loved to be around his family and he adopted every child he met. Lots of hugs were given and received throughout his lifetime. Tony was preceded in death by his brothers Tom, Frank, Jim, Martin, Ted and infant twin sister, Ann Elizabeth. Tony came to know Jesus our Lord as his Savior (John 3:16) and his pain and suffering on this earth has ended.  Tony leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends all who will miss him greatly.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
