Anthony J. Petroff

Anthony ""Tony"" J. Petroff, age 81 of Iron River, MI, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. Born: December 6, 1927 in Bates Township, MI He was the son of the late Michael and Sophie (Yuzda) Petroff and was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating with the class of 1947. He was employed by M.A. Hanna Mining company working in the area mines for many years. He married the former Irene Paul-Stromberg on September 17, 1966 in Iron River and the couple owned and operated the Pine Acres Tavern on the Michigan/Wisconsin border for many years, retiring in 1999. The couple then moved to Iron River to make their home. Irene preceded him in death September 21, 2001. Tony was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. He was also preceded in death by brother Daniel and sisters Helen Hermanek, Dolly Petroff and Margaret Schiavo. He is survived by one step-daughter, Janice (Noah) Brow of Curtis, MI Two step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren One brother, Jack Petroff of Iron River Two sisters; Judy (Ron) Jones of Caspian, MI Sharon (Daryl) Pufhal of Black River Falls, WI Numerous nieces and nephews There will be no visitation. Private Graveside services will be held at the Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
