Anton “Tony” S. Skrivanie, age 87, of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday August 22, 2017 at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital. Tony was born October 21, 1929 in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Anton and Magdalene (Bialik) Skrivanie. He grew up in the Homer Location, attending the Homer Schools and later the Iron River High School, graduating with the Class of 1948. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean War Conflict. He was honorably discharged and returned home where he was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company until his retirement. On June 14, 1952 he married Alice Beckman and the couple made their home in the Hilltop area. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this summer. Tony was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River and in his younger years he sang in the choir. He served on committees and was very involved in the work of the church. He was a Disabled American Veteran and was a lifetime member of the DAV. He was an avid outdoorsman, while enjoying hunting, fishing, archery, and camping. He loved spending time at the family camp. Biking was also a favorite past-time and he spent many happy hours on his scooter, visiting with local people in the area. Tony had a love for life and people, especially the elderly, the handicapped and anyone lonely. He visited many shut-ins and the sick, bringing much joy where ever he went. He loved to recite The Cremation of Sam McGee, The Shooting of Dan McGew and sing Nicolina. Tony will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Alice; his children, Richard (Sue) of Minneapolis, MN, Sandra (George) Lundwall of Steversville, MT, Julie (Steve) Jacobson of Dunbar, WI, Steven of Iron River, MI, Toni (Jeff) Stachowicz of Caspian, MI; seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special lifetime friend, Julius Omillian. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Iron River with the Rev. Michael Laakko to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the Service.
