Antone Medovich

Antone ""Tony"" ""Rocco"" Medovich, age 86 of Lombard, IL, died Saturday, November 3, at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. Tony was born in Caspian, the son of the late Rocco and Matilda (Vezzetti) Medovich. He graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1944. Tony enlisted in the US Navy, serving on the USS Pope during WWII, and attended Michigan State before moving to Chicago. He married C. Dawn McGarry on October 25, 1958 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Chicago. He was a chief field engineer and registered land surveyor prior to his retirement in 1991. Tony was a proud grandfather and enjoyed attending sports, music and school activities for his 4 grandchildren. He treasured the lifelong friendships developed during his years growing up in and around Caspian. His favorite activities included fishing for trout on the Paint River and Chicaugon Lake and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his daughters, Alicia (Fred) Toppel and Adair Barta, all of Lombard; his grandchildren, Jim Paul, Jr., Caitlin Barta, Freddy and Brandon Toppel and his brother, Jerry of Milwaukee; his sisters, Gloria Miravete of Joliet, IL, JoAnne DeVilbiss of Bellflower, CA, and Karen Dobson of Caspian, MI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Dawn, nee McGarry; two brothers, Edward ""John"", and Raymond; three sisters, Lucille Bartow, Dorothy Anderson, and Mary Bigoff. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 11 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase offering the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River. Memorial donations to the Iron County Historical Museum at 100 Brady Avenue, Caspian, MI 49915 or a charity of your choice are appreciated.
