Archie S. Carlotto, age 84, of Caspian, MI, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. He was born June 11, 1929 in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Guglielmo and Clara (Scaggio) Carlotto. He attended the Caspian and Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1947. He was employed as a bus driver for the Stambaugh and West Iron County Schools for 41 years. Archie married the former Domenica Mandolini on June 19, 1954 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area.  They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. He was a member St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, where he also ushered, member of American Legion Reino Post #21, VFW Ottawa Post #3134, member of the Caspian Gaastra Fire Department for 60 years, serving as Fire Chief for 24 years, President of the Iron County Firemen’s Association, Past President of the U.P. Firemen’s Association, Secretary of the Duca Abruzzi, Treasurer at the Caspian Community Center, and a former member of the Elks Lodge. He loved his garden and the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on projects in his garage. Archie is survived by his wife, Domenica; son William “Bill” (Debra) Carlotto of Caspian; son-in-law Curt Soderbloom; sister, Eileen Partington of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Edward, Cara, and Andy Carlotto, and great granddaughter, Kyla Carlotto. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rose Ann Soderbloom on July 27, 1999, an infant brother, and his sister, Emma Weigand. Visitation will be held Friday, April 11th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Members of the Iron County Firemen’s Association will be in attendance at the visitation. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12th at 11 a.m. at St Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.  Pallbearers are Curt Soderbloom, Andy Carlotto, Dan Passamani, Chuck Hynous, Bruno Ghiotto, and Joe Sabol. Graveside services and interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.The family suggests memorial donations to the Caspian-Gaastra Fire Department.
