Arthur “Art” G. Hibbard, age 85, of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born June 16, 1930 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Cecil and Edith (Hebert) Hibbard. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1949. Art married the former Helen Constantine and the couple had five children, Fay, George, Kim, Frank, and Artie Jr. Helen preceded him in death on August 28, 1968. He later remarried and had three more children, Trudy, Tracy, and Patrick. Art served as Supervisor for Iron River Township for nine years, was a Certified Level 1 Assessor since 1974, had served as Vice Chairman of the West Side Planning Commission, and as Director of the Iron County Fair Association. He was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company for 17 years, worked at D.A. MacPherson, Inc. for eight years as Parts Clerk, and as Iron County Treasurer, retiring after 16 years of service. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, going to the casino, and playing music, especially the drums. Art is survived by his children, Fay (Ron) Frailing of Iron River, George Hibbard of Iron River, Kim (Donna) Hibbard of Ishpeming, MI, Frank (Julie) Hibbard of Iron River, Art Jr (Wendy) Hibbard of Iron River, Trudy Hibbard of Altoona, WI, Tracy (Rachel) Hibbard of Altoona, WI, and Patrick (Kate) Hibbard of West St. Paul, MN; close friend, Joan Hibbard of Altoona, WI, (mother of Trudy, Tracy and Patrick); sister, Frances “Frenchy” Hibbard Gajewski of Caspian; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Hibbard, sister, Sally Pangrazzi, and Anita Sundling-Hibbard. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
