Barbara A. Smith

Barbara A. Smith, 70, of Caspian, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on April 29, 1954, in California, the daughter of the late Merle and Phyllis (Durand) Smith. She attended the area schools, graduating from West Iron County High School. She enjoyed spending her summers as a Federal Volunteer hosting campgrounds for the U.S. Forest Service. Barb gave freely to her community volunteering her services and time in venues such as the American Legion. She was a member of the Community Church of the Nazarene in Iron River. She also liked cooking, baking, doing needlework, and fishing. Barb is survived by her significant other, James Freitag of Caspian, MI; Son, Brett (Sonya) Smith of Chugiak, Alaska; sister, Judy (Mark) Chybowski of Brookfield, WI; Three Grandchildren, Corbin, Donald, and Shayla; Five Great-Grandchildren, Jayden, Ivory, Nyla, Immanuel, and Xavier; Nieces, Nephews, extended family, and friends. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Cindy Bandy. Private family services will be held.
