Benjamin Stachowicz Sr.

Benjamin Stachowicz Sr. age 81, Gaastra, MI died Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. Born: September 16, 1926 in Mastodon Township The son of the late Jacob and Katherine (Ball) Stachowicz attended the Alpha and Caspian schools. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed by the City of Caspian. Ben married the former Viola Belongie on June 4, 1949 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gaastra and the couple were lifelong residents. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in 2007. He was a member of St Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, and former member of the Stambaugh Legion. He enjoyed wood working, playing with his grandchildren, cutting wood, outdoor activities, restoring cars, and Ford Tractors. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Benjamin Jr. and John Joseph; one brother, Joseph; two sisters Marie and Delores; one granddaughter, Kristi. He is survived by his wife, Viola Four sons; Dan (Joanne) of Iron River Michael ""Mickey"" (Beverly) of Caspian Rick (Jackie) of Appleton, WI Chris (Laura) of Gaastra One sister-in-law, Mary Stachowicz of Eagle River, WI Five Brothers; Edward (Josephine) of Sullivan, MO Jack (June) of Crystal Falls, MI Donald of Alpha Frank of Crystal Falls Robert (Gail) of Iron River One sister, Carol of Crystal Falls 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren Nieces and nephews Visitation: Thursday, February 28, 2008 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Caspian with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. West Side Veteran Council will accord Military Rites. Pallbearers: Jason Stachowicz, Norman Stachowicz, James Stachowicz, Dustin Wos, Nathan Fieck, and Travis Jackman. Honorary Pallbearers: Jon Wos, and grandson John Stachowicz, presently serving in Iraq. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
