Benjamin “Pogo” Tart Jr., age 58, of Iron River, MI, passed away on April 29, 2019 after a boating accident. He was born on May 31, 1961 in Ashland, WI, the son of the Shirley (Nelson) Tart and the late Benjamin Tart Sr. He attended the Mellen Public Schools in Mellen, WI. He was a US Army Veteran. Pogo married Kathy Lambert on July 8, 1997 in Quinnesec, MI. Kathy preceded him in death in 2006. He was employed as a self-employed logger for 36 years. He attended the Lakeland Baptist Church in Iron River. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time at camp, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Pogo is survived by his daughter, Brittany Tart of Amasa, MI; sisters, Rebecca Tart, Cindy Mattson, and Theresa (Mike) Johnson, all of Iron River, MI, and Roberta (William) Smet of Pound, WI; grandchildren, Clyde Tart and Lilyan Spitza of Amasa, MI; stepsons, Bobby and Kevin Mathison, both of Iron River, MI; stepdaughter, Melissa Sartorelli of Iron River, MI; best friends, Mark “Chow” Ponozzo and Ron Meyers, both of Iron River, MI, and Joseph Spitza of Amasa, MI; and many nieces, and nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Tart and his nephew, Michael Ralph Johnson Jr. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 10 to 11am at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11am with Deacon Robert Kostka to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
