A kind, sweet and gentle light was extinguished when Beryl O. Smith peacefully passed away last Monday surrounded by loved ones. A long-time resident of Iron River, MI, she died on August 22, 2022, at age 69 at the Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain, MI. She was born on April 9, 1953, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Steven and Barbara (Bonner) Smith, whom she dearly loved. She graduated from Port Washington High School in Wisconsin. Beryl loved helping and serving others. She was proud to have earned her CNA certification and worked as a CNA at the Iron County Medical Care Facility. After she retired from Iron County, she loved her work as a private caregiver for a very special client. She also worked as a waitress at several area restaurants, including a favorite, Losey’s Landing. Beryl loved to garden, birdwatch, and get together with friends and nieces. She excelled at baking, routinely sharing cookies and her famous creampuffs with those she loved. Beryl is survived by her son, Luke Gunderman of North Pole, AK; brother, Donald Smith (Pamela) of Fredonia, WI; sisters, Fay (Scott) Steffens of Prescott, AZ and Amy (Tom Landgraf) Smith of Madison, WI; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Jacob Gunderman. Visitation will be held on September 1, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor DJ Rasner to officiate. Interment will be in Bates Cemetery.
