Betty Bal, age 94, of Gaastra, MI, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. Betty was born in Gaastra, MI on June 27, 1929, the daughter of the late Jacob and Magdalenna (Rucinski) Bal. She attended the Gaastra, Palatka, and Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School as President of the Class of 1947. She lived in Gaastra her entire life. Shortly after graduation, she began working at the Iron River National Bank. She attended the Northern Michigan School of Banking, graduating with the Class of 1965. She continued working at the bank which later became one of the Michigan Financial Corporation Banks. She worked 47 ½ years at the bank, retiring in 1994 as a Vice President. Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gaastra, serving as the organist from high school until the church closed. She then became a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian and was an organist there for a short time. She also was a member of St. Anne’s Society. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her four brothers and their wives, Arthur (Arlene), John (Frances), Joe (Beverly), and an infant brother, John and seven sisters and their husbands, Bernice Bal, Nellie Bal, Helen (Ray) Kelleher, Valerie (Andrew) Tomasoski, Florence (Robert) Brumm, and two infant sisters. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian with Rev. Daniel Fosu to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
