Bruce Rankin Lindstrom of Iron River died Saturday, May 12, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 11, 1934 in Stambaugh, son of Lawrence and Janet (Rankin) Lindstrom. He graduated from Iron River High School in 1952. Bruce served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He later graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting. He lived his life as a good and decent public servant. He began his career as a plant manager for Griffin Wheel in Chicago, Illinois, then moved on to the State of Michigan as a Legislative Fiscal Analyst. In 1972 he was appointed as Governor William G. Milliken's first Special Assistant for U.P. Affairs, where he served until 1978, and later as the Chief of Staff to Representative Dominic J. Jacobetti until he retired from State Government in 1993. Bruce worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico until retiring permanently in 2000. He returned to reside in Iron River, where he was active in local organizations and served on the Downtown Development Authority. Bruce was a member of VFW Post 3134, Post Adjutant for the American Legion Post 17 in Iron River, the Elks, Golden K, Masons, and Shriners. He was honored by Iron County Golden K for his outstanding work during the Michigan Week Banquet in 2006. Bruce was an avid MSU fan, and enjoyed golfing, sports, visiting at deer camp, and cooking. He was a loving father and grandfather, brother, devoted friend and always a willing volunteer. He is survived by his mother Janet, his special friend and soul mate Janet Tarsi, his three children Sonja (Simon Knights) Lindstrom of Montecito, California, Kirsten (James Glanzer) Erickson of Iron Mountain, Charles Bruce Lindstrom of Negaunee, and their mother Franzi Henry, one sister, Sandra Tegge of Iron River, a brother, Tom Lindstrom of Thailand, three grandchildren, Haley Erickson, Annika Erickson, and Chloe Madison Lindstrom Knights, a sister-in-law, Dolores Lindstrom, cousin Lee Lindstrom of Florida, lifelong friend Dick Tegge of Iron River, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence and his two brothers, Lawrence Jr. and Jay. Visitation: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI. A Masonic Lodge Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by an Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service. Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River, MI, with Pastor Dawn Treado-Green to officiate. Pallbearers are Jeff Phillips, Joe Rankin, Wally Rankin, Rich Tegge, Jeff Lindstrom, and John Lindstrom. Honorary Pallbearers are Dick Tegge, Lee Lindstrom, Chuck Greenlund, Jim Spicer, Dan Rousseau, Larry Burch, Steve Shepich, Gary Lange, Dr. Donald Jacobs, and Captain Stephen J. Tegge, who is proudly serving the United States Army in Iraq. Interment, Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River, MI West Side Veterans Council to accord Military Rites.
