Bruce W. Long, age 55, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at UW Health University Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born on May 9, 1967, in Honolulu, HI, the son of the late Herman and Marlene (Hanshew) Long. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Tumon, Guam in 1985. Bruce was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 24 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Ottawa Post #3134 and the West Side Veterans Honor Guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bonfires and beer, golfing, and blowing stuff up. Bruce loved his country and was very patriotic. He loved his family and friends and when he walked into a room, he was larger than life. Bruce is survived by his son, Matthew (Jessica) Long of Prospect, OH; daughter, Amber Rose (Matthew) Miller of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Brantley and Heather Long; fiancé, Theresa Miskell of Iron River, MI and her son, Joseph Soucy; brothers, Kent Long of Nikiski, AK and Darin (Sara) Long of Iron River, MI; sister, Kathlene Long of Iron River, MI; special cousin, Laurie Marquardt of Adel, IA; shipmate, Dennis Varhall of San Diego, CA; nephews, extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Erika Rahe. A memorial service will be held at the Iron River War Memorial on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with the West Side Veterans to accord Military Rites. A Celebration of Life will follow at the VFW Ottawa Post #3134 in Iron River.
