Bruno A. Ghiotto

Bruno A. Ghiotto, age 90, of Gaastra, MI, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on July 21, 1931, in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Vergilio and Rosa (Prasasrn) Ghiotto. Bruno graduated from Stambaugh Schools in 1950. He was a US Army veteran, serving from 1952 to 1954. Bruno married Ann Marie Roe on June 16, 1974. The couple celebrated 43 wonderful years together. Together he and Ann Marie loved playing cards with family, going on casino trips and traveling in their trailer throughout the States. Ann Marie preceded him in death on May 27, 2018. He was employed as a truck driver and then later as stock clerk at the Iron River Garage of the Iron County Road Commission for many years. Bruno was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, MI and The American Legion Renio Post 21, and a past member of the Gaastra Fire Department. He was also a dedicated and longtime member of the Caspian Progressive Men, where he was a super salesman of raffle tickets, and a longtime member of the Duke of Abruzzi of Caspian, serving as secretary/treasurer and avid player of the bocce league for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son and grandsons. Bruno is survived by his daughter, Rose Ghiotto of Iron River, MI; daughter-in-law, Mary Ghiotto of Iron River, MI; stepson Richard Sloat of Iron River, MI; grandsons, Tommy (Lisa) Gendzwill, Darren (Megan Serbinski) Ghiotto, and Jason (Angela) Ghiotto; step grandchildren, Terri Lynn Lambert and Steven (Lissa) Sloat; nine great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Ghiotto; stepson, Michael Sloat; brother, Reno Ghiotto; and sisters, Rena Yackel and Mary Sleeman; and the mother of his children, Joan Nelson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Members of the Iron County Firemen's Association and other firefighters will hold a pass and review at 9:30am. A funeral service will follow at 11am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Cherian to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Iron River Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
