Buddy L. Jacob, age 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Iron River Care Center. Buddy was born on April 3, 1931, in Saint Johns, MI, the son of the late Otto P. and Ona B. (Pope) Jacob. He attended and graduated from St. Johns High School. He then attended Michigan State University and earned his degree in fisheries. Buddy married the former Dianne Treul on April 16, 1978, in Crystal Falls, MI and the couple made their home in the Iron River area. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year. Buddy was employed as a fishery biologist for the State of Michigan, retiring in 1984 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Golden K, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, the American Fisheries Society, the Lee LeBlanc Chapter of the Audubon Society, and was a Rotarian. Buddy was an extremely kind and loving man. He had been raised to be a Proper gentleman and treated his family and others with respect and kindness. An avid outdoorsman, Bud spent most of this free time out in nature and enjoyed fishing, bird hunting in Canada, deer hunting, and gardening. He was very active in local community improvement, especially in cleaning the streams of Iron County. In his retired years, Bud had traveled around the globe with his wife, Dianne. He is survived by his wife, Dianne; sons, Otto (Debra) Jacob of Quinnesec, MI and John (Cate) Jacob of Tallahassee, FL; daughters, Leeann Schaffer of Owosso, MI, Malissa (Bill) Eagloski and Rene (Ron) Carlson, both of Iron River, MI; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack Jacob and sister, Betty Maise and first wife, Doris A. Cole. Private family services will be held.
