Mr. Calvin J. Martin Sr, 87, Tipler, WI, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at his home. He was born August 13, 1925 in Tipler, WI, the son of the late John and Sally (Jones) Martin. He attended the Tipler Schools prior to serving with the U.S. Army in WWII where he participated in the German-European Theater. On October 18, 1947, Calvin married the former Ida ""Marie"" Ball in Iron River, MI and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1997. He was employed by American Brass and then American Motors for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Tipler. Calvin was an avid woodworker and enjoyed hunting, berry picking, checkering gun stocks and gunsmithing. Music was a very important part of his life. He loved to play his guitar and keyboard daily. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida ""Marie"" in 2005; two infant daughters, Janet and Patricia; four brothers, William, Warren, Joseph and Alvin Martin; and four sisters, Lillian Morin, Eva Dickson, Alice McHenry, and Rachel Cook. He is survived by four sons, Calvin J. (Linda) Martin, Kenosha, WI James M. (Sandra) Martin, Tipler, WI Gregory S. (Arlene) Martin, Kenosha, WI Joseph W. (Sherry) Martin, Sheboygan, WI Four daughters, Judith M. Woodall, New York, NY Joy R. Kastman, Cornell, WI Gloria J. Bacewicz, Kenosha, WI Joanne L. (Bruce) Eriksen, Ogden, UT Two brothers, Allen (Vivian) Martin, Vero Beach, FL John (Jean Ann) Martin, Kenosha, WI One sister, Lucille Wernholm, Iron River, MI 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren Numerous nieces and nephews He was a loving, gentle man who will be greatly missed, not only by his family, but also by his many friends, especially the Andersen family who fondly called him Zorro. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, with Rev. Robin Zeratsky to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service. Interment will be in Martin Cemetery, Tipler, WI Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
