Carl H. Kallio, 86, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, WI. He was born on November 11, 1938, in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Herman and Alice (Janhonen) Kallio. Carl attended the Iron River Schools and graduated with the class of 1956. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a machinist mate. Carl married Karen Mattson on July 28, 1973, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Southfield, MI. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. He was employed as a machinist in Detroit, then as a driller blaster in White Pine, and later was the Water Superintendent for Iron River Township. Carl was a member of First Lutheran Church in Iron River, VFW Ottawa Post #3134, AMVETS Post #436, and the West Iron County Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, gardening, and just being outdoors. He also enjoyed singing, especially in the church choir. Carl is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Daniel (Tanya) Kallio of Iron River, MI and Wayne (Kristin) Kallio of Wausau, WI; sister, Ruth Kallio of Ann Arbor, MI; sisters-in-law, Ilene Mattson and Miriam Mattson; grandchildren, Grace, Emily, and Andrew Kallio and Bailey, Brennan, and Lexi Rullcoski; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church. Members of the Iron County Firemen's Association will hold a pass and review at 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow with Vicar Lance Crevier to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in the spring. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
