Carl Nolingberg

Carl Nolingberg passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023. He was born September 17, 1936, and was the son of the late Maurice and Bernice Nolingberg. He was a lifelong resident of Iron River except for a few years that he worked as a Forester for Bowaters Southern in Kingston, TN. After high school, Carl enlisted in the Army serving with the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Carl received his honorable discharge in 1959. On September 9, 1961, Carl married Maxine Proksch. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Nolingberg; his two children, Lisa (Randy) Bicigo and Chris (Shelly Fiszer) Nolingberg; three granddaughters, Bobbi (Zach) Anderson, Chloe (Nolingberg) Braunmiller, and Keely Nolingberg; four great grandchildren, Arsil Ahimed, Wesley Reed, Octavia Anderson, and Phillippa Braunmiller. After his honorable discharge, Carl attended Northern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. He received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1964. Carl spent most of his working career estimating and supervising heavy highway construction with priorities in Michigan and Wisconsin. Carl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River. He is a past member of the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671, a past member of the Michigan Road Builders Association, a member of the Bell Lapidary Club, and a proud member of the Iron County Golden K Club. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, and lapidary. Carl had a true love for Lake Superior. He especially enjoyed time with his family and loved ones either at home or taking his family out to dinner. He had a love for life. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack Nolingberg. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River with Pastor Bob Malsack to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
