Carlotta "Charlotte" F. Serena

Carlotta “Charlotte” F. Serena, age 78, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at UP Health System-Marquette.  She was born on November 7, 1939 in Bowdle, SD; the daughter of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Hoerner) Dewald. Charlotte attended the Bowdle Schools.  She then joined a convent in Milwaukee, WI. Charlotte married Jerry D. Williams on October 23, 1967.  He preceded her in death on September 21, 1970 after an auto accident.  She then married James Serena on December 23, 1972 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River.  The couple celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary in 2006.  James preceded her in death on February 19, 2007. She was employed in the kitchen at Dina Mia for many years.  Charlotte was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Rosary Sodality, and sang in the choir.  She was very active in St. Agnes through the years.  In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling with her friends and gardening.  She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her choir friends and her family, whom she loved dearly.      Charlotte is survived by her son, Jason Serena of Burnsville, MN; daughters, Linda (Richard) Koenig of Isanti, MN and Francesca (Nathaniel) Economy of Iron River, MI; brothers, James (Karen) Dewald of Cudahy, WI and Charles (Judy) Dewald of Tempe, AZ; sisters, Delphina (Carl) Sanborn of Ipswich, SD and Carol (Harlin) Knecht of Aberdeen, SD; sister-in-law, Barbara Serena of Iron River, MI; four grandchildren, Alicia Koenig, and Taylor, Kinsley, and Donovan Economy; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Don Edward Williams in 1988; brothers, Edmund, Ralph, and Edward Dewald; and sisters, Bernadine Dewald, Geraldine Senn, Jeanette Gosh, and Elizabeth Hochstetter.  Visitation will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.  The Rosary Sodality will form an Honor Guard at the service.  Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
