Carol M. Drake

Carol M. Drake, age 87, of Crystal Falls, Michigan, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born March 28, 1929, in Shelby, MI, the daughter of the late Louis and Vesta (Griffin) Stevens. She attended the Hart Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. Carol married Rae Drake on May 30, 1952 in Ludington, MI, and the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2014. Rae preceded her in death on September 8, 2014. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. Her children remember her as “the best mother anyone could have.” She was famous for her wonderful meals and special carrot and crazy cakes. She loved supporting all her husband’s high school and college teams and enjoyed watching sports. She is survived by her sons, Rae (Mollie) Drake Jr. of Marquette, MI, and Paul (Dawn) Drake of Plover, WI; daughters, Monica (Mitchell Ketchens) Drake of Clarksville, TN, Virginia (Stefano) Brajdic of Miami, FL, and Amy (Robert) Thomson of Marquette, MI; brother, Fred Stevens of Kalamazoo, MI; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Connie Dillingham and her brother, Charles Stevens. Visitation will be held Monday, October 31, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, with Pastor Dawn Treado to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
