Carol Faye Vezzetti, age 91, passed away on October 4, 2023, in Rockville, MD. She was born in Iron River, Michigan. Carol had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for her one-line zingers. She is survived by her sister, Sally Maki, as well as nieces, Lynn Maki, Janice Snively, Judy Crouch, Angela Vezzetti, nephew David Vezzetti, several great nieces, nephews and their families. Carol was preceded in death by her father Joseph Vezzetti, mother Myrtle (Lundin) Vezzetti, brother Calvin Vezzetti, and nephew Curtis Vezzetti. Carol received her education at Iron River Elementary School and Iron River High School. She then went on to attend Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and received a B.A. Degree. Having no desire to become a teacher, Carol’s Science major led her to accepting a position as physicist at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology). She began her research in the Electronic Tubes Section of the Electricity and Electronics Division and ended her career in the field of semiconductors in the Manufacturing and Engineering Lab of the Precision Engineering Division. In her free time, Carol enjoyed various hobbies. She was an avid ice skater (as she put it, everyone who grows up in the U.P. ice skates), world traveler, dancer, and swimmer. Travels included U.S. Virgin Islands, Italy, the USSR, Borneo, Myanmar and Mexico. She swam laps 3 times a week at the local pool. Always the Scientist, she enjoyed tinkering and fixing things around the house. Carol also dedicated her time to giving science demonstrations in elementary schools and was an active soprano in the Augustana Lutheran Church choir in Washington, D.C. Additionally, she served as the financial secretary of the church. Upon retirement after 37 years of Government Service, she spent summers at the family cabin on the Paint River and the home in Iron River where she volunteered at the museum and went dancing with friends. We remember Carol for her quick wit, passion for science, and dedication to her community. Her contributions to the field of physics and her involvement in the church will forever be cherished. May she rest in peace. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery with Vicar Lance Crevier to officiate.
