Caroline Mehlberg

Caroline ""Carol"" Mehlberg, 88, of Iron River, MI, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born November 10, 1924 in Stambaugh Township, MI, the daughter of the late Axel and Mary (Nikkola) Raiha. She attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1942. Caroline married Robert Mehlberg on November 11, 1950 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Stambaugh, MI and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in 1998. Robert preceded her in death on July 21, 1999. She served as the Stambaugh Township Clerk for 17 years, retiring in 1992. Caroline was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Iron River. She was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, and decorating cakes. She was very family oriented and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lauri and David Raiha, and sisters, Eva Wurzer, Ann Morgan, and Ida Cochenette. Caroline is survived by her son, Laurie (Tammy) Mehlberg of Stambaugh Township; daughters, Christine (David) Piette of Stambaugh, Jean (Jerry) Blood of Stambaugh Township, and Erica (David) Morris of Bellevue, MI; sister, Elizabeth Ponozzo of Iron River; sister-in-law, Lucille Raiha of Stambaugh Township; grandchildren, Rob and Michelle Blood, Pamela Stolberg, Heather and Violet Morris; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Memorial services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, with Pastor Robin Zeratsky to officiate. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
