Catherine M. Holt

Catherine M. Holt, age 83, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on February 25, 1936 in Phelps, WI, the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Stevens) Becraft.  She attended school in Eagle River, graduating with the Class of 1954.  Catherine married Jess Holt on March 30, 1972 in Eagle River, WI.  The couple moved to Iron River in 1987.  They celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary in 2000.  Jess preceded her in death on November 27, 2000.  While raising her children, Catherine was employed as a housekeeper for many years.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her cats and enjoyed oil painting and listening to music, especially Luciano Pavarotti.  For many years, she was also known by Telephone Time listeners as the “Wreath Lady”.  Catherine is survived by her sons, Ernest (Brenda) Frayer of Sewanee, TN, Mathew Frayer of Caspian, MI, Joseph Frayer of Sewanee, TN, and David Holt of Bates Township, MI; daughter, Dawn Holt of Bates Township, MI; sister, Margaret (Charlie) Congelton of Eagle River, WI and Teresa Schoenfelder of Farina, IL; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Becraft and sisters, Mag Moran and Laura Bueschel.  A Liturgy of the Word service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 2 pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River with Rev.
