Charles "Bud" H. Hamacher

Charles “Bud” H. Hamacher age 96, of Iron River, MI, passed away September 8, 2016 at the Iron River Care Center in Iron River, Michigan. He was born June 26, 1920 in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Charles and Viola (Schindler) Hamacher. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1938. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Bud married the former Maxine M. Shoquist on October 1, 1946 in Crystal Falls, MI, and the couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2015. He owned and operated the Trav-Lures Motel of Iron River from 1952 to 1974, he was one of the original developers of Brule Mountain, was an avid skier, and skied Vail, CO before it was fashionable. He spent time as an underground miner in Iron County, and sold real-estate for several years. Bud was also a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion Ottawa Post #3134. He served as Developer, Manager and Trustee of the George Young Recreation Center for over 40 years. Bud enjoyed years of fishing and hunting in both Iron County and L’Anse, told endless stories to his children and grandchildren of his experiences in the woods. With Bud, a handshake was considered a contract. He could hold a grudge for years, and yet forgive in a heartbeat. Bud is survived by his wife, Maxine; sons, Brian (Barbara) of Caspian, and David (Tamara) of Gladstone, MI; daughter, Barbara (Ted) Bart of Butler, PA; grandsons Scott Bart, John and Garrett Hamacher, and Granddaughters Becky (Don) Gage, Debbie (Brian) Goss and Tara (David) Weintraub and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Covenant Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James Swanson II to officiate.
