Chester ""Chet"" Stanchina, 87 a former resident of Caspian, Michigan, resided in Castro Valley, CA since 1963, passed away March 9, 2011. He leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Janet Flaschberger; his beloved four children, Mark, Mary Jan Rose (David), John (Michelle), Dan (Sonja); and two dearly loved grandsons, Tyler and Sean Stanchina. Survivors include three step-grandchildren, Matt Pine, Jurrell and Jocelyn Turner; and two step-great-grand-children, Evan and Caleb Pine. He also leaves his brother Albin Stanchina and sister Shirley Lyttle. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them at the many family BBQs, the annual camping trips to Yosemite, the fishing trips to Clear Lake, and playing bocce ball. He also found much pleasure with the pets in his life and he loved to chat with neighbors who called him the mayor of the block. He was very proud to have served in Europe during WWII. Honorably discharged as a corporal, he returned to Michigan where he worked for the Northwestern Railroad until 1959. From then on he was employed in the construction industry and was a member of Hod Carriers Construction Local 166 until his death. No formal services will be held; burial will take place in Michigan with Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
