Clayton J. Sloat, age 72, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born May 22, 1945, the son of the late Jack and Virginia (Lincicome) Sloat. He attended and graduated from the Iron River High School, with the Class of 1963. Clayton was a Veteran, proudly having served his country, in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967. Clayton married Geraldine “Geri” Johnson on October 21, 1967 in Iron River, MI. The couple celebrated 49 wonderful years together last fall. He was employed as a truck driver in the logging industry for many years. He was a member of the VFW Ottawa Post #3134 and former member of the Iron County Timberman’s Association. He enjoyed bird hunting, fly-fishing and motorcycles. Clayton is survived by his wife, Geri; son, Mark (Kari Bellin-Sloat) Sloat of Houghton, MI; daughter, Carrie (Erick ) Civinskas of Roscommon, MI; grandchildren, Ashley Sloat, Xander, Evan and Alaina Civinskas; sisters, Peggy (Jack) Felstein of Oconomowoc, WI and Roberta (Dale) Rackers of Henley, MO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jenny Block. Private family services will be held.
