Crystal L. Blankenhorn

Crystal L. Blankenhorn, 48, of Newald, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on August 7, 1974, in Rhinelander, WI, the daughter of Donna (Albrecht) Sturzl and the late James J. Sturzl. She attended the Laona Schools, graduating from Laona High School with the class of 1992. Crystal married Jon Blankenhorn on December 4, 2004, in Newald, WI. The couple celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in 2021. She worked as an advanced EMT for several area rescue squads. Crystal was a volunteer for the Long Lake Tipler Rescue Squad since 1999. She enjoyed being an EMT and dedicated her life to taking care of her mom and dad. She also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and spent every chance she could with Lexi. Being a grandma was her greatest joy in life. Crystal is survived by her husband, Jon; mother, Donna Sturzl; daughters, Brittany (Adam) Thom of Aurora, WI and Brooke Blankenhorn of Newald, WI; granddaughter, Lexi Thom of Aurora, WI; brother, Jimmy (Susie) Sturzl; nephews, Tyler Sturzl and Logan Sturzl; nieces, Hope Gilligan, Nikki Sturzl, and Jennifer Hanold; mother-in-law, Izybel Stuhlmacher; special family friend, Amanda Mulvey; extended family and friends.
