Curtis D. Denis, age 67, of Iron River, MI, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI. He was born October 24, 1946 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Arthur and Alice (Moger) Denis. He attended the Valders Schools in Wisconsin, where he performed and lettered in track and field, and graduated with the Class of 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, working in the mail room in Germany. He served until 1969, and was awarded a service medal for marksmanship. Curtis married the former Dixie Lee Rose Belongie on July 12, 1969 at St. Mary’s Church of Gaastra. He worked for Brillion Iron Works for 13 years, the Coleman Plant for 13 years, and John Crane Industries for 13 years. He attended and graduated from Nicolet Community College, where he studied culinary arts. He then worked for Riverstone Restaurant for over 10 years. He was a 4H leader, was a member of the Beechwood Safe-shooters, worked at the fair food booth, was Commander of the Legion Drill Team and Color Guard of Brillion, WI, Scout Master of Troop #521, Hunter’s Safety, Compass Course Instructor, organizer of the Ironline Sled Dog Race, and “Sno-cats” snowmobile club member. He enjoyed fly tying, fishing, hunting, photography, and animals. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Dixie; brother, Ronald Denis; daughter, Georgianna (Tony) Tomasoski; sons, Ira (Rachel) Denis, and Brandon (Cherie) Denis; grandchildren, Jordyn Denis, Jacob Tomasoski, Alexis and Gavin Denis, McKenzie and Parker Denis; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and “Partner in Crime” Mark Begres. He was preceded in death by his sister, Avis Belongie. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. The West Side Veterans will do a walk through at the visitation. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, with Pastor Dawn Treado Green to officiate.
