Dale T. Slevoski, age 71, of Iron River, MI, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI. Born: July 26, 1938 in Iron River, MI The son of the late Leo and Glenna (Olsen) Slevoski attended the Iron River schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1956. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving for four years aboard the USS Newport News, stationed mainly in the Mediterranean Theater. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by WW Grace, LTD in Lake Zurich, IL He later worked in real estate in Lake Zurich and then worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2000. Dale married the former Sharon Helgemo on June 20, 1975 in Waukegan, IL and the couple celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary in 2000. Following his retirement, the couple moved from Illinois to the Iron River area, spending winter months in Florida. The couple also enjoyed spending time at their cabin near Deer Lake. Dale was a member of the American Legion in Florida. He was very active in the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life and was proud to be an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 33 years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing (especially trout fishing), riding ATV, traveling, camping, and music. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister and brother, James. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Son, Robert Denis of Bristol, WI Daughter, Diane (William) Barton of Traverse City, MI Brother, Robert (Karen) Slevoski of Marion, MI Sisters; Donna Roach of Burnsville, MN Barbara (Tom) Lozowski of Florence, KY Three grandchildren Nieces, nephews and extended family Visitation: Wednesday, December 23, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, with Pastor Dawn Treado Green to officiate. Interment: Bates Township Cemetery, Iron River, with the West Side Veterans to accord Military Rites at the graveside service in the spring.
