Daniel J. Passamani

Daniel J. Passamani, age 84, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Dan was born on July 19, 1937, in Iron River (Bates), MI, the son of the late Louis and Hilma (Norkoli) Passamani. He attended and graduated from the Iron River Schools, with the Class of 1955. He worked at the Homer Mine as a driller and later transferred to the Groveland Mine as truck driver and driller, until his retirement in 1980. He then worked for Cornel Benson and Sons Logging as a sawyer and also as a school bus driver for West Iron County Schools. Dan married his soulmate Susan I. Yackel of 44 years on July 2, 1988, in Iron River (Bates). They celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary this year. In his younger years, he played center field for various softball teams. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and fulfilled his dream to see a game at Comerica Park. Dan enjoyed hunting, trout fishing, working in his garden, traveling, and spending time at his Paint River Camp. He is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Daniel and Deryk (Melissa) Passamani; daughters, Shari and Dawn Passamani; nine grandchildren, Shylo (Kevin) Hyry, Deryk, Hadley, Piper, Rudi, Tucker, and Regan Passamani, Douglas and Darci Blanton; great grandchildren, Hadden, Zakary and Ashley Hyry, Sophia Fosmo and Violet Passamani; great great grandsons, Brantley Larson and Jameson D’Amico; brothers, Andrew and Duane Passamani; sister, Ann (William) Carne; godson, Phillip L. Passamoni; special Minnesota family, Elaine, Todd, and Dylan Haataja; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Phillip and Ronald; sister, Jan Garber; and beloved dog, Annie. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Bates Twp Hall with a gathering starting at 2:00pm and service starting at 3:00pm.
