David G. Fugate, 69, of Iron River, and formally of Tipler, Wisconsin, passed away on March 31, 2012, at Northstar Health System after a three year courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 31, 1942, in Stambaugh, Michigan, son of the late Granville Fugate and Ruth Tetzloff. He graduated from Florence High School in 1959. He joined the Marines after graduation and served in Okinawa and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in December 1964. Following his discharge he was employed by Wisconsin Electric as a line forman, retiring in July 1997. He moved back to Tipler where he made his home. He loved to hunt and fish, was an avid cribbage player, and Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 17 in Iron River, a life member of the Florence Post VFW, and a life member of the Amvets. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, Tim (Candy) Fugate of Kenosha and John Fugate of Kenosha, Wisconsin; brother Mark (Sheila) Fugate of Wausau, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his step-children Melvin (Lynn) Aho of Iron River, Tim (Carrie) Aho of Iron River, Vicky (Tom) Weichel of Spruce, Michigan, and Laurie (Sam) Sibani of Charles Town, West Virginia, and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren, along with his lifelong friend, Harry Simard of Tipler. Due to his wishes, there will be no services. However, there will be a graveside memorial service in the spring at Martin Cemetery in Tipler.
