David W. Thoney, 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. He was born on November 17, 1931, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late William and Pearl (Maki) Thoney. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the class of 1948. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. David married Doris Smith on May 12, 1956, in Kenosha, WI. The couple celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in 2004. Doris preceded him in death on November 25, 2004. He was employed as a truck driver for Hanna Mining. David was a member of The American Legion Reino Post #21. He loved to bowl and enjoyed cutting and splitting wood, fishing, hunting, gardening, and just being outdoors. David also liked to play cards and was a jokester. David is survived by his son, Daniel (Sandy) Thoney of Iron River, MI; daughters, Debra (Brian) Masnova of Iron River, MI and Diane (Jeff) Lazzio of Burlington, WI; grandchildren, Benjamin, Michael, Janine, Lisa, Melissa, Dustyn, Nikolas, and Cole; nieces, nephews, several special friends, and extended family. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Thoney; brother, Neil Thoney; and sister, Sally Benter. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor DJ Rasner to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
