Delvina "Bena" V. Hammar

Delvina “Bena” V. Hammar, age 100, of Iron River, MI, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Iron River Care Center in Iron River. Bena was born May 17, 1916 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Neil and Hilma (Greenlund) Baker. She attended the Stambaugh Schools and worked for many years in the family business, Baker Grocery Store, in Stambaugh. Bena married George Hammar on September 15, 1935 in Stambaugh and the couple made their home in Stambaugh. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1985. George preceded her in death on June 15, 1988. She attended the Grace Covenant Church with her daughter. She was an avid card player and bowled for many years. She also enjoyed needlework, string art, crafting, sewing and quilting. Bena is survived by her daughters, JoAnne Schive of Iron River and Janet Bresette of Marquette, MI; five grandchildren, Christine (Mike) Martinson, Lynn (Melvin) Aho, Dan (Jennifer) Schive, Donna Bresette, Traycee (Alfonso) Bresette-Hill; nine great grandchildren; ten great, great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Earl, Roy, and Edmond Baker and sisters, Alice Rusu and Myrtle Greenwood. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Covenant Church, with Rev. James Swanson II to officiate.
