Dennis F. Cummings

Dennis Floyd “DC” Cummings passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, peacefully at his home. He was born on February 17, 1941 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Douglas Cummings and Anne (Claire) Cummings. Graduated from Carl Schurz High School in Chicago, IL. He also went to Wright Jr. College for two years of Chemistry. Dennis married Sandee Sowa on June 11, 1977, in Wheaton, IL. They lived in Elk Grove, IL for a few years before they moved to Iron River, MI. They purchased a hobby farm where they had many different types of animals. Dennis enjoyed taking care of his animals on the hobby farm, hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and his Chicago Bears. Dennis had unconditional love for his pups, Molly and Sarge, and enjoyed taking them for rides. They were everything to him. Dennis served 36 active years on the West Iron County Fire Department. They were another family that he grew to love, spending many years with many great people. Dennis had a contagious smile that many people talked about and still remember him after many years, and he was always friendly, and people loved him. Dennis is survived by his wife, Sandee (Sowa) Cummings of Iron River, MI; younger brother, Patrick Cummings of Arizona; half-brother, Douglas Cummings; children, Kevin Cummings, Lisa Peters, and John (Stacy) Sucholl; grandchildren, Brittany Simon, Matthew Peters, Dani McCabe, Anthony Sucholl, Eriana Sucholl, and Tyler Sucholl; great grandchildren, Olivia, Matthew, Phoenix, Jack, Kash, and a baby girl on its way. Dennis had many cousins he still kept in touch with through the years. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Members of the Iron County Firemen's Association and other firefighters will hold a pass and review at 5:00 pm. A Liturgy of the Word service will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 10:00am at the Jacobs Funeral Home with Rev. Jose Cherian to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
