Dolfo Contardi

Dolfo Contardi, age 90 of Caspian, MI, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Northstar Health System, Iron River. Born: March 6, 1919, Iron River (Virgil Location), MI The son of the late Frank and Maria Contardi was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended the Iron River schools and graduated from the Iron River High School with the class of 1936. After graduation he joined the CCC's (Civilian Conservation Corps) and was discharged in 1939. In 1940 he was employed by the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company working in the area mines until their closure in 1955. He was then employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company, retiring from the Groveland Mine in 1981. Dolfo married the former Berniece Woons on November 5, 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gaastra, MI and the couple made their home in Caspian. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1992. Berniece preceded him in death in 2005. He was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian and enjoyed playing bocce ball as well as hard and softball. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Geno, Bruno and Evaldo, and three sisters; Helen Kovacich, Rose Bobula and Edyth Boyden. He is survived by his son, Gene (Carolyn) Contardi of Orange, CT Granddaughter, Lisa Contardi Nieces and nephews Visitation: Tuesday, June 2, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian. Funeral Service: Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, with the Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
