Domenica A. Carlotto, age 89, of Caspian, MI, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at her son’s home in Caspian. She was born November 17, 1928 in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late Amedio and Rose (Contardi) Mandolini. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from the Iron River High School, with the Class of 1946. She was employed as a Sales Clerk at J.C. Penney’s Department Store of Iron River for 50 years, from 1946, until its closure in 1996. Domenica married Archie S. Carlotto on June 19, 1954 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2014, however, Archie preceded her in death on April 7, 2014. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, St. Ann’s Society, the Italian Ladies, and the Lady Elks. She enjoyed bowling with her bowling league, sewing, cooking, and gardening. She especially enjoyed lots of traveling on bus tours with her friends. Domenica is survived by her son, William “Bill” (Debra) Carlotto of Caspian; son-in-law, Curt Soderbloom; grandchildren, Edward, Cara (Rich) Johnson, and Andrew (Savanna) Carlotto, and great granddaughter, Kyla Carlotto. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Ann Soderbloom and her sister, Jane “Jean” Kinney. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The Ladies of St. Ann’s Society and the Italian Ladies Society will form an Honor Guard at the service. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, in the spring.
